As a business that caters healthy menus for kid's parties, one question that clients ask very often is - Where I can get a healthier option for cake?

These are clients who consciously seek Low-sugar  / Vegan / Allergen-friendly / No food colouring / No fondant type of birthday cake, which I admit can be hard to find.

Healthier cake can sometimes mean a simpler looking cake (when compared to their fondant and gum paste decorated counterparts) but it does ensure your guests can enjoy a delicious sweet treat, guilt-free! To help those seeking these options, I have put together a list of SIX baking businesses that I have come across in the last few years that check some or most of the boxes for a 'healthy' birthday cake!

While I haven't personally tried the cake from each one of these bakeries, these are businesses that have received lovely reviews from ex clients and have a loyal fan base in Singapore.

Cake Spade

http://www.cakespade.com/

Cake Spade's most popular offering is their tofu cheesecake (unbaked). Available in three flavours - Strawberry, Peach & Mango, this delicious cake has a digestive cookie crust. Cake Spade is located on Tanjong Pagar road and typically needs atleast a week's notice for custom cakes.

Carrotsticks & Cravings

http://www.carrotsticksandcravings.com/

Carrotsticks & Cravings is an Aussie cafe by cookbook author Terri Anne Leske that specialises in nutritiously delicious food made with love. They've recently started to accept orders for their beautiful floral cakes (perfect for princess parties and baby showers!), that can be customised to accomodate allergies/ food sensitivities.

Cream and Custard

https://creamandcustard.com/
This bakery caught my eye with its gluten-free, low-sugar Watermelon Strawberry Cake!

Two layers of almond dacquoise, fresh cream infused with Rose and a center layer of fresh watermelon, topped with a generous amount of fresh cut strawberries, grapes and blueberries.

Here's the surprising fun fact I learnt - The sweetness of the cake comes solely from the fresh watermelon! No sugar is added into the fresh cream either! This cake would be so perfect for a tropical / summer / island themed party!

Delcie's Desserts & Cakes

https://delcies.com/

Delcies  specialises in healthy, vegan, diabetic friendly, gluten free, and allergy free baking.

Their all-natural cake recipes do not contain any form of eggs, dairy , chemicals or egg-aiding agents such as emulsifier, stabiliser, commercial egg-replacer or whey protein. Delcies is undoubtedly one of the top names for healthy cake in Singapore and they've received the "Healthier Choice" certification from the Health Promotion Board as their cakes are low in calories, low in cholesterol, trans-fat free, low sugar, low sodium and high in fiber without compromising on taste.

Oh My Goodness

https://www.ohmygoodness.co/

Oh My Goodness! is the culmination of the Founder’s own health and wellness journey. All, yes all their bakes are gluten-free, dairy-free AND refined sugar-free! OMG is among the few bakeries that list all their ingredients for every item on their menu. Personally I love the look of their simply decorated cakes as they're the perfect canvas to add themed paper toppers or toy figurines for kiddie parties!

Ugly Cake Shop

http://www.uglycakeshop.sg/

The Ugly Cake Shop does not believe in using artificial colouring, artificial flavours, fondant (too sugary) or gum paste. While these additions make visually beautiful cakes, they prefer baking cakes that are not overly sweet using more natural ingredients (and the fewer chemicals). This lovely bakery supports undernourished children by donating a part of their profits to the nutrition fund of a school in Timor-Leste.
